Don't Let the Local Newspaper Print Your Inserts!

By printing your newspaper inserts, or full color flyers, from a printing company that specializes in such printing can save you a lot of time and money. Most advertisers think that the local newspaper actually prints their inserts on site. However, their presses are made to print newspapers and not glossy flyers. So, what does the newspaper do? They buy them from a printing company just as I am suggesting you do, and then add a hefty mark-up to you, the end user. To see if you are paying too much for the printing, compare the newspaper's rates for "print and deliver" to "insert only". If there is more than $20.00 gap in between those two rates on 100,000 flyers, then you could possibly save money. Or, if there is a gap of $25.00 or more on 50,000 flyers; and a $30.00 gap or more on 30,000 flyers, then you could save money. In fact, most gaps are much higher than the ones shown, allowing you to save even more money!

Moreover, if you are sending out newspaper inserts to several newspaper at once, then this method not only saves you a lot of money, but a lot of time as well. You can then use one design for all of the newspapers and print them in bulk from a specialty printer. Then simply have the appropriate quantity of flyers shipped to each newspaper for delivery. Just tell your newspaper rep that you want to "insert only" and that you will be sending the to your newspaper. Remember to allow enough time for your flyers to hit the streets on time. Usually it takes about 1 to 2 weeks to print them. And, the newspapers will want to have the in-house about 1 week prior to delivery.

Furthermore, if your "main" daily newspaper wants too much money to deliver your inserts, try a smaller weekly paper that usually charges less. They may also get you a better response, as your insert may be the only one in their newspaper.
