All the Little Pieces of the Big Picture

By Philip Sartes

When you're only looking at a single piece of the puzzle it can seem as if it wouldn't really fit very well, but once you start looking at things in relation to the big picture, your perception can quickly change.

To get a little more specific about what I'm talking about, take a good look at envelope printing. Now, if one were to look at the envelopes that a company sends out they're going to see the company logo on those envelopes, along with maybe the company's slogan or motto, and certainly the company's name.

This is a form of marketing right here. Every company who is getting envelope printing done in order to make sure that every envelope they send out has their company name on it is taking part in marketing for their company.

But I've seen a lot of people who aren't really viewing it as marketing, and so they don't bother with any of it for their company. Marketing is about posters and postcards, they'll say. Marketing is about a big advertising push. If you want to market for your company you need to print of a handful of brochures, you need to organize things and make sure you have a strong marketing message.

They're looking at only the major forms of marketing, and concluding that this is all that marketing has to offer, so this is all you should be paying attention to.

After all, what message does an envelope give about a company? All it does is show people the company name and logo and nothing else. Is this really part of marketing?

If you're just looking at envelope printing it can seem a little odd calling it marketing because you're just looking at a single piece of the puzzle.

Just getting your brand name out to people is a form of marketing. You're helping people to remember who your company is and remember what your logo looks like. This is just as much a part of marketing as the big campaigns, and this type of marketing is needed to complete your marketing.

You need both the large and the small of marketing. The great thing about the small marketing is that you don't have to put a lot of time and effort into them. All it takes is a single envelope printing order and you're done with your envelope marketing for a year or more.

Don't lose sight of all of the ways to market your company by forgetting to really look at the larger picture of it all. A lot of different things go into a strong marketing push, and sometimes if you're only looking at one part of it, you might not realize how it fits into the whole thing.
